Barnyard Animals

  1. In this scene, Adèle and Simon are visiting a farm in North Dakota.
  2. Ask students to name the farm animals depicted in the illustration.
  3. Make a T-chart listing the animals in the first column and the farmer’s purpose for having the animals in the second column. See the example below.
  4. Discuss whether farmers still raise the same animals today, and for what purposes.

cows for milk, which can be used as is or made into many products (butter, cheese, yogurt, ice cream); for meat
horses for pulling wagons and carriages; for riding
